Earth Day 2013

Happy Earth Day“Will you teach your children what we have taught our children? That the earth is our mother? What befalls the
earth befalls all the sons of the earth.
This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man
belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.”

Attributed to Chief Seattle – 1854
(Actually written by Ted Perry for Home – an environmental move in 1972.)

Earth Day rolls around again. I know this is a few days early, but wanted to give you a head start in case you want to plan some activities.

There’s so much hype – both positive and negative – about the creation of another “remembrance day”.  We have Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Flag Day, Labor Day . . . Why not an Earth Day? Continue reading

Earth Day 2012 and Seed Bombs

Earth Day 2012 is almost here. While we feel everyday is Earth Day, I like to look at it as Mother Earth’s birthday. Hey, we all have a birthday. It’s a great reason to celebrate and have fun.

Last year’s Earth Day post gave you some ideas for things to do to connect with Mother Earth and her inhabitants. This year, we’re celebrating with “Seed Bombs”… consider them party favors from Mother Earth’s birthday party.

Seed bombing is a subset of the Guerrilla Gardening movement, which has been described as “Gardening public space with or without permission. Continue reading

Earth Day 2011

It’s funny how we need to pick a day to celebrate the earth… particularly when our ancestors celebrated and honored “The Mother” every moment. They literally “worshiped the ground they walked on”.

earthhug1But let’s thank Senator Gaylord Nelson, for beginning the celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd back in 1970. The government set aside another day for us to honor our “Mother”. This was, according to Senator Nelson, a way to “put the environment into the political ‘limelight’ once and for all” (his words). Now, Earth Day, is celebrated in most countries of the world.

As we humans have “evolved”, we’ve completely lost our connection to the planet we live on and the world that we live in. We “think” we’re individuals or separate beings. Continue reading

Celebrate Mother Earth

I know it’s been a while since I posted. Sometimes life happens and sometimes I run out of ideas of something relevant to post. Believe me, you don’t want to hear my mind’s ramblings 🙂 If you have something you would like to hear about, please feel free to drop me any email at mailto:debbie@shamanicconnection.com.

It’s been a busy few weeks here in Phoenix, and life is good. The weather is warming up and we hit 98 Monday. We should be cooling back to the 80’s tomorrow. I know, many of you are just beginning to see the snow melt. But, summer in Phoenix, is like winter in the colder climates. We are not as active outdoors during the heat, and spend more time indoors during the intense days of monsoon season when we hit over 110. So, it’s not much different than the winter cold, except we don’t have any white stuff to shovel and the intense heat only lasts about 4 weeks!!

Today I want to chat about Earth Day coming up on Tuesday, April 22. Continue reading
