For the next few blog posts, we are going to be coordinating with our shamanism blog, Shaman’s Blog. We are covering the individual chakras in that series.
The Stone People are very helpful in balancing our chakras and providing us specific energies that support our individual chakras, we will be covering some of the stones relevant to the major chakras.
We referenced a variety of stones for the root chakra in the blog Chakras 101 – The First or Root Chakra. Some gemstones often associated with this chakra are Garnet, Smoky Quartz, Obsidian, Black Tourmaline, Ruby, Bloodstone and Red Jasper.
As discussed in that blog post, the Root Chakra, is largely about survival and security issues. Therefore, most protection stones are related in some way to the root chakra. Most red and black stones, as well as many brown and gray stones, are also related to the Root Chakra.
Stones for the Root Chakra
Garnet – Garnets are closely related minerals that form a group, resulting in gemstones in almost every color. Red garnet which is one of the most is related to the root chakra.
Garnet is a stabilizing stone, in that it can bring order to chaos whether internal or external. This makes it a good stone for balancing the root chakra, as when our “fight or flight” response is triggered, it usually produces emotional and often, physical chaos.
It is an excellent for manifestation, another function of the first or root chakra. Use it to ground your dreams in reality, bring abundance, prosperity, and realization of those dreams. They are also are used to assist on an energetic level with success in your career path by building self-confidence, and fostering inspiration, and creativity. It can also make clear what is one’s life purpose.
Garnet also stimulates Kundalini, assisting in flow of energy.
Obsidian – Obsidian is essentially volcanic glass. It ranges in color from an opaque black, to green, brown, mahogany, black with rainbow colors, red/black, black with snowflake patterns, black with a golden sheen and a translucent black (Apache Tears).
Obsidian is an excellent stone for grounding and protection. It is a powerful grounding stone that provides an instant connection from the Root Chakra deep into the core of the Mother Earth. Obsidian wards off negativity and grounds you to the earth, releasing negative energies and emotions, such as anger, jealousy, greed, and resentment that can result in restlessness, irritability and nervousness.
It is a good stone to use for introspection – helping you to see where changes need to be made within yourself.
Red Jasper – Red Jasper stones will of course be predominately red, but will be mixed with varying shades of red, brown, orange, yellow, green.
Red Jasper is full of grounding Earth energy. Red Jasper can connect you deeply to the vibrations of the Earth, helping to bring a greater connection with Nature. Its energy is said to have a stabilizing effect, and can help you use your energy in a balanced manner.
It is said to be outstanding for promoting survival and overcoming survival issues. It has very nurturing energy and can help with ancestral/inherited issues.
Jasper is a stone of protection, used by Shamans. Red Jasper aids in resolving difficult situations and can be used to ground and stabilize the Aura. Jasper has been used to ensure safe astral travel, and for dowsing.
Black Hematite – Hematite is a mineral, colored black to steel or silver-gray, brown to reddish brown, or red. Some specimens are iridescent, such as the polished, silvery gray-black hematite we are most familiar with.
Hematite’s keywords are stability and grounding. It is another excellent stone to help keep you connected to the Earth plane. Hematite is a very protective stone and is great to carry to help you stay grounded in many situations. It also helps to calm you in times of stress or worry.
As a Root Chakra stone, Hematite helps transform negative energies into a more positive vibration.
Bloodstone – Bloodstone is a deep green stone with small red specks. The small red specks are where the stone gets its name. They make the deep green stone appear to be spotted with blood.
Bloodstone is excellent for centering and grounding. It is said to be calming, and to lessen confusion, stress, and anxiety, which can be helpful, especially in survival situations.
It is said to be particularly good for helping emotional traumas and grief. Being a stone of courage, Bloodstone helps to bring mental, physical and emotional renewal by releasing blockages in the Root Chakra. Removing these energy blockages creates a smooth and constant energy flow throughout the body.
Bloodstone can also be used as a Root Chakra stone to bring abundance, success, and prosperity, as well as smoothing the way with legal issues.
Black Tourmaline – Also called Schorl, Black Tourmaline, is a dark, opaque, yet shiny black gemstone.
Black Tourmaline is a powerful grounding stone. It balances, harmonizes, and protects all of the Chakras. This makes it an excellent stone to use for grounding and centering during meditation. For the Root Chakra, Black Tourmaline has a calming effect, grounding flighty or scattered energies into the earth. It can be used to help remove fear and boost self-confidence.
It is a well-known as a purifying and protective stone that deflects and transforms negative energy. It can transform and remove negativity from an individual or an environment. Use Black Tourmaline to protect against electromagnetic “smog” (i.e. cell phones, computers, etc.), radiation, noise sensitivity and other such disturbances.
As we move on through the chakras, we may revisit some of these same stones as many have properties that will carry over to other chakras.
